Healthy Beaches Program

Environmental Health

White clouds streak the blue sky as the whitecap waves roll on the emerald green ocean hitting the jagged rocks of the beach.

The 34 Florida coastal counties collect water samples biweekly at designated locations. Some counties sample seasonally.

The ocean beach sampling program is funded in part through the Florida Healthy Beaches Program.

The coastal beach water samples collected by the county health departments are analyzed for enterococci bacteria. High concentrations of these bacteria may indicate the presence of microorganisms.

County health departments will issue health advisories when these conditions are confirmed. Testing is done at a local state certified laboratory and the results are updated twice monthly.
