Health Advisory for Bacterial Levels Lifted - Jetty Park on Hutchinson Island

By Arlease Hall

May 13, 2020

Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County has lifted the swimming advisory at Jetty Park on South Hutchinson Island. A new sample was taken on Monday, May 11, 2020, and test results returned today were satisfactory.

The advisory was issued because the level of enteric bacteria exceeded the standard set by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in samples collected last week.

Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County, Environmental Health Division, has been conducting saltwater beach water quality monitoring since July 2000, through the Healthy Beaches Monitoring Program. The Health Department monitors 6 sites, every week. The water samples are analyzed for enterococci bacteria.

For results of St. Lucie County beach samples, visit the Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County website at:  https://stlucie.floridahealth.gov/ and click on Environmental Health, select Healthy Beaches Program, then select Florida Healthy Beaches website.
