Amoebic Meningitis

Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM) is a rare but nearly always fatal disease caused by infection with Naegleria fowleri, a thermophilic, free-living amoeba found in freshwater environments. Infection results from water containing N. fowleri entering the nose, followed by migration of the amoeba to the brain via the olfactory nerve.
Getting PAM is like getting struck by lightning. Except lightning only kills 10%. Once PAM symptoms start, it's almost impossible to save the victim's life.
