The Florida Department of Health at St. Lucie County and Division of Emergency Management operate a special needs shelter for individuals who seek shelter from a disaster and need medical assistance.
Those who have a medical condition that does not meet requirement for hospital admittance but needs medical assistance can be eligible for the special needs shelter.
Special Needs Registry
Special needs shelters are for those with disabilities or who require medical care that exceeds basic first aid. Preregistration is important so emergency responders can ensure space is reserved for those with the greatest need.
