By Arlease Hall

August 17, 2016

St. Lucie, County – Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County has lifted the swimming advisory at Walton Rocks Beach on South Hutchinson Island. A new sample was taken on Monday, August 15, 2016, and test results were in the good range.

The advisory was issued because the level of enteric bacteria exceeded the standard set by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in samples collected last week.

Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County, Environmental Health Division, has been conducting saltwater beach water quality monitoring since July 2000, through the Healthy Beaches Monitoring Program. The Health Department monitors 6 sites, every other week. The water samples are analyzed for enterococci bacteria.
