Water Advisory Lifted

February 11, 2015

St. Lucie County - Following a series of samples in the acceptable range for enteric bacteria, the advisory to avoid contact with the waters near River Park Marina, Veterans Park and Sandpiper Canoe Launch has ended.

Enteric bacteria inhabit the intestinal tract of humans and animals and their presence in recreational waters is an indicator of fecal pollution. The presence of these bacteria may come from storm water runoff, pets, wildlife and human sewage.

The advisory had been in effect since April 2014. These areas will continue to be tested on a regular basis. In addition, ocean beaches, South Beach Causeway, and JC Park are sampled every other week.
